0. Background

Unlike Canadian Porsches, U.S. Porsches do not come with Daytime Running Lights. The Canadian cars have an extra relay for this. However, we can't just add this relay to U.S. cars because they are missing some wiring in the relay panel.

This very simple hack will enable Daytime Running Lights on all Boxsters and 996 Carreras.

1. Tools & Supplies

Tools:
  • Wire Cutter
  • Wire Crimper

Supplies
  • 2 inches 18-20 Gauge wire
  • 2 Female Quick Disconnects (Radio Shack #64-3131)
  • 2 Fuse Taps (Radio Shack #270-1204)
  • 1 ATC/ATO Fuse (Radio Shack #270-1082) (if you don't have heated seats)

2. Installation

  1. Crimp the Female Quick Disconnects to the 2" wire
  2. Connect the Fuse Taps to the Female Quick Disconnects
  3. Remove the fusebox cover
  4. Remove fuses A9 (and A6 if you have heated seats)
  5. Put the fuses into the fuse taps
  6. Plug the fuses into the fuse box.
    Note: It is very important that the fuses be inserted so that the fuse taps are on the lower side of the fuse!
  7. Bend the fuse taps so that they lay flat.
    Note: Make sure to bend them to the right so that they don't get hooked when you remove the fusebox cover.

3. Notes

This hack can be very easily removed by just removing the fuse taps.
